Company Overview

Without a formidable dairy industry there is a lack of fresh milk for infants being weaned in Ghana. Imported dairy products are very expensive and unaffordable for the average household. Thayer alums Audi Okullo and Safoa Sackey-Acquah identified the need for an inexpensive, high protein baby food and used the 9 week Introductory Entrepreneurship course to help develop their Pro-Foods business idea. Pro-Foods aims to provide a low-cost, nutritious baby food to address the need for a healthy, affordable and convenient alternative to imported baby food and nutritionally deficient alternatives.

Pro-Foods Company seeks to enrich African infant foods with nutrients (proteins, vitamins and minearls) by incorporating locally grown foods that are not fully utilized in meals. Pro-Vita is a blend of grains and legumes available in Ghana. This product will incorporate underutilized sources of protein such as groundnuts, melon seeds and beans to achieve an 18% protein content.

Next Steps

Safoa and Audi hope to introduce Pro-Foods first product Pro-Vida in 3 regional capitals, distributing through existing channels to open air markets.  The product will be introduced by giving samples to local womens groups as well as to nutritional centers run by NGOs.

Safoa and Audi are currently working out the next steps in their Pro Foods business plan.
